Team Coaching with Goaltender Byron Spriggs in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Byron offers winter and spring team goalie coaching to ensure your goalie stays sharp all year long! This allows your goalie the opportunity to improve on their specific abilities during the winter and spring seasons.

How Does Team Coaching Work?

Often, coaches will run a “split practice” - meaning the forwards, defencemen and goalies are separated to focus on position-specific skills.

While the coaches are working on systems with the rest of the team, Byron will take the goalies and run them through goalie specific drills.

Most recently during the Winter 2017-18 season, Byron provided goalie coaching for the following teams:

  • AAA Bantam 1 Monarchs
  • AAA Bantam 1 Sharks
  • AAAA Vincent Massey Trojans
  • AA Midget Rebels
  • A1 Midget St. James Canucks

During the upcoming Spring 2018 season, Byron has committed to providing goalie coaching services for the following teams:

  • ‘06 Manitoba Team Xtreme
  • ‘08 Manitoba Lightning
  • ‘06 MHD Falcons
  • ‘07 MHD Falcons

Please contact Byron for more details about Team Coaching Opportunities.

Senior Groups - Goalies Born 2007-2009 (AA and above)

The Full Summer Elite Program is the best opportunity for goalies who are committed to developing and improving their goaltending abilities this summer. It is a more intense program where goalies are pushed and challenged more than in a weeklong camp setting. This program has been designed by Byron to cover all aspects of the goaltending position across a full-summer. Byron is limiting the groups to lower numbers this year to maximize the amount of time goalies are able to spend getting instruction and being in the net.

8 Week Program (July 4-August 25) - SOLD OUT

16 On-Ice Sessions
16 Off-Ice Sessions
2 Semi-Private Sessions with Byron - NEW to 2023
Monday & Wednesday Evenings (Semi-Private session times will be early mornings in July on Tuesdays/Thursdays)

Components to the Summer Program:

On-Ice Training
These skates have a combination of skating, goalie specific skill, and situational play drills. There will be high-level shooters on the ice to challenge the goalies for the situational play drills, and create the most realistic game-like plays possible.

Off-Ice Workouts
These workouts are created for goaltender specific development. There are 2 main areas of focus for these workouts:

  • Improving strength for more speed and control in the crease
  • Flexibility and strengthening joints for injury prevention

Video Sessions
These sessions are led by head instructor, Byron, and provide as a great visual aid for the goalies to see themselves in action, reinforcing tactics and skills being taught on the ice. These sessions will also include video from Byron’s work in the WHL, MJHL, and USports to help goalies understand player tendencies/options and how to read the play from a goalie’s perspective. This year, there will be more emphasis on video done on the ice. In addition, discussions about mental preparation, hockey intangibles, and high-performance habits.

Semi-Private Sessions
NEW to 2023 - Byron has added 2 semi-private sessions to the program at the start of summer to help identify some key areas of development for the goalies to focus on through the summer program. It’s an even smaller environment where the goalies get the opportunity spend 1 on 1 times with Byron and ask Byron questions.

NEW - 6 Week Program (July 18-August 24)

11 On-Ice Sessions
11 Off-Ice Sessions
Tuesday & Thursday Evenings

Components to the Summer Program:

On-Ice Training
These skates have a combination of skating, goalie specific skill, and situational play drills. There will be high-level shooters on the ice to challenge the goalies for the situational play drills, and create the most realistic game-like plays possible.

Off-Ice Workouts
These workouts are created for goaltender specific development. There are 2 main areas of focus for these workouts:

  • Improving strength for more speed and control in the crease
  • Flexibility and strengthening joints for injury prevention

  • AAA Bantam 1 Monarchs
  • AAA Bantam 1 Sharks
  • AAAA Vincent Massey Trojans
  • AA Midget Rebels
  • A1 Midget St. James Canucks

During the upcoming Spring 2018 season, Byron has committed to providing goalie coaching services for the following teams:

  • ‘06 Manitoba Team Xtreme

  • ‘06 MHD Falcons
  • ‘07 MHD Falcons

Please contact Byron for more details about Team Coaching Opportunities.
